Luther Vandross Foundation
500-5,000
The Luther Vandross Foundation was founded to continue Luther’s legacy of providing financial assistance to students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Luther understood that a major challenge for students achieving a college degree is lack of funding. Throughout his career he promoted the importance of education. From personal experience he understood the benefit of a student’s learning environment.
Mission: Our mission is to provide financial assistance to students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), thus extending Luther Vandross’ commitment to helping students achieve their goal of completing their degree and preparing for their next endeavors.
Impact: Statistics show that over 50% of students attending HBCUs are first generation college students and come from low income families. These scholarships are meant to lessen the financial burden on the students, and their families and communities that support them. The goal of the Luther Vandross Foundation is to aid in that support, helping students to graduate and continue their journey to success.
Our scholarship requires that the scholarship candidate apply for Federal Student Aid, so it is recommended that applicants complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Get in-depth information on federal student aid programs and applying for financial aid at:
https://studentaid.gov/fafsa-app/ROLES
Disbursement: Scholarships are awarded to 50 recipients for the 2023-2024 academic year, and will cover amounts towards the student's tuition, or tuition based fees, as posted by the financial aid office. The Luther Vandross Foundation scholarship is made through the designated school and are not transferable to other academic institutions (we do not cover winter, or summer semesters). The funds are to be used for tuition, or tuition based fees only and may not be used for other costs on the recipient's bursar bill, or be used for refunds.
The Luther Vandross Foundation will review all online applications and select final candidates on the basis of:
