Future Golden Tigers: How To Navigate The Application Process

In Application Process

Applying to colleges and navigating the different processes can be overwhelming at times. To help, we have created a step-by-step guide to the Tuskegee undergraduate application process.

Remember, there is no separate application for the College of Agriculture, Environment and Nutrition Sciences (CAENS). Simply indicate your interest in one of our degree programs — Agribusiness; Animal and Veterinary Sciences; Environmental, Natural Resource and Plant Sciences; and Food and Nutritional Sciences.

STEP 1 – CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT

Before you begin your application, you need to create an online account by following these directions. It’s easy to do, ensures that all your personal information is stored securely, and gives you the flexibility to work on your application in more than one sitting if you so choose.

STEP 2 – COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORM

Complete all sections of the form that apply to freshmen applicants. The first sections provide us with information about you and your parents or guardians. Next, we ask about your high school record and SAT or ACT scores. The remainder of the form addresses your academic and extracurricular interests.

There are so many ways to get involved here on campus. CAENS alone provides ample opportunities to participate in activities related to your major, including the National Women in Agriculture Association, Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), Pre-Vet Club, and Gamma Sigma Delta, the honor society of agriculture. You can learn about these organizations and other activities that make up the CAENS Experience on our website.

STEP 3 – SEND OFFICIAL ACT OR SAT SCORES

We will need a copy of your official ACT or SAT scores. An official copy means that it comes directly from the testing organization. When you register for the ACT or SAT, request that your scores be sent to Tuskegee University using the following school code, depending on which test you are taking.

SAT – 1813

ACT – 0050

STEP 4 – SEND YOUR OFFICIAL HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT

Ask your guidance counselor to send a copy of your official high school transcript to Tuskegee. Remember that counselors are busy this time of year, so make your request early to give them plenty of time to get it done.

STEP 5 – PAY YOUR APPLICATION FEE OR SUBMIT AN APPROVED FEE WAIVER

The last requirement for a complete application is a $25 nonrefundable fee. You can pay it online by debit/credit card or check when you submit your application, or mail it with a completed paper application. An approved fee waiver can also be used if you are unable to pay the fee. Talk to your guidance counselor about how to request a fee waiver.

STEP 6 – TAKE A MOMENT TO CELEBRATE!

Hooray! You’ve finished your application. Take a moment and celebrate having it done.

STEP 7 – WAIT FOR A DECISION AND FOCUS ON YOUR STUDIES

Tuskegee Admissions Office staff will personally review your application. You can log into your online account at any time and check your activity log, which shows your submitted application and receipt of all other materials. Decisions are made on a rolling basis as applications are received. You will receive a decision by mail.

Once you’ve applied to colleges, it’s still important to keep working hard at academics. Fall, and even spring grades, can be used for scholarship decisions and to maintain your enrollment status.

STEP 8 – PAY YOUR PRE-ENROLLMENT FEE

Once you have been accepted to Tuskegee University, it is imperative you pay your pre-enrollment fee by the deadline indicated on your acceptance letter. This $500 fee secures your spot in a residence hall and finalizes your acceptance to Tuskegee University! For more information on deadlines click here.

The deadline for Fall 2019 admission is May 1, 2019, but we encourage you to apply as soon as you are ready.
